Literacy Coach
About The Position
The role of the Literacy Coach is to strengthen evidence-based literacy instruction and improve student outcomes in the middle grade levels 6-8. This full-time, grant-funded position focuses on improving Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction through job embedded coaching, professional learning, and data-informed practice and planning-helping teachers enhance literacy (reading and writing) outcomes for all students, particularly multilingual learners, students with disabilities, struggling readers and writers, and economically disadvantaged students. The Literacy Coach partners with teachers to enhance instruction for diverse learners through collaborative planning, differentiation and scaffolding. Working closely with school administrators and the Curriculum & Instruction Department, the coach helps align classroom practices with district and state literacy goals, ensuring consistency, rigor, and sustainability in literacy instruction across schools. Date Available: 2025-2026 Closing Date: Until Filled Effective: 2025-2026 School Year
Requirements
- New Jersey Elementary Teacher Certificate and/or Middle/High School English Certificate
- Minimum of 3 years classroom experience as an elementary, middle school, or high school language arts teacher
- Working knowledge of evidence based literacy practices, theory and research on the current best practices and instructional materials in reading and writing
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as those with varied learning needs and abilities.
- Commitment to creating inclusive, equitable, and supportive learning environments that affirm the identities and strengths of all students, particularly those from historically marginalized groups.
