About The Position

Haverhill Public Schools is seeking a Reading/Literacy Teacher (Coach) for a part-time position at Walnut Square Elementary. This role is anticipated to begin in the 2025-2026 school year and will involve working from August to June. The teacher will be responsible for supporting classroom teachers in literacy instruction and improving student outcomes in reading. The position requires collaboration with various educational staff and participation in professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Certified as a Teacher of Reading by the Massachusetts Department of Education, SEI Endorsement.
  • Education in Reading preferred.
  • Demonstrated classroom teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts ELA/Literacy Framework.
  • Skills, knowledge, and dispositions to effectively and collaboratively work with teachers to improve general classroom literacy instruction.
  • Basic understanding of adult learning and leadership skills to effectively support teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between the ELA Supervisor, Reading Interventionist, and classroom teachers.
  • Consult with classroom teachers on grouping, testing, student placement, and instructional strategies.
  • Support teachers by providing resources and ideas about assessment and instruction.
  • Model lessons, problem solve with teachers, and facilitate group discussions.
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials.
  • Model lessons daily with standards-based instructional practices.
  • Assist with effective Professional Development in literacy instruction.
  • Work with teachers to improve fidelity of literacy instruction.
  • Participate in kindergarten screening, team evaluations, and testing of new students as directed.
  • Assist in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Promote students' interest in independent reading.
  • Inventory Language Arts materials in assigned building(s).
  • Work cooperatively with Title I, Special Education, Reading Interventionist, and Administrators.
  • Attend monthly Literacy Meetings with ELA Supervisor.
  • Perform instructional and other general duties as indicated by the building Principal, ELA Supervisor, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.

Benefits

  • Salary in accordance with the Teachers' Salary Schedule based on education and experience, ranging from $53,753 to $102,987 (prorated for part-time).
