About The Position

Under direction from management, the Literacy Associate 2 position performs a variety of moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties of the literacy program which include interfacing with tutors and literacy learners, teaching classes, outreach, and clerical duties. Employment Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly) Hours Per Week: 30 NOTE: This position is 100% dependent on funding from the CLLS ESL Grant, which is currently approved through June 30, 2026.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with varied pedagogical practices related to literacy and ESL instruction
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint desired
  • Experience in program and curriculum planning
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required
  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.

Nice To Haves

  • Literacy and ESL experience desirable

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Literacy Coordinator and literacy staff to plan, implement, facilitate, and promote literacy activities, programs, and projects
  • Conduct Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
  • Conduct outreach and represent the Literacy Department at community events
  • Conduct learner orientations and learner assessments for Adult, Family, and ESL programs
  • Maintain databases and records with timely and accurate data entry for reporting purposes
  • Perform phone and reception duties for Literacy Department
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies).
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
  • Other duties as assigned
