Under the authority of the Prince George's County Board of License Commissioners, this is a responsible technician level liquor inspection position. Work acumen includes but are not limited to training, conducting a wide range of inspections, investigations, and surveillance work. The Liquor Inspector is responsible for conducting surveillance work of Prince George's County bars, restaurants, and related establishments licensed for the public sale of alcoholic beverages. Incumbents in this class are subject to extensive public contact and perform routine field and office assignments to attain compliance with alcoholic beverage codes and regulations under the close supervision of the Chief or Deputy Chief Liquor Inspector. Liquor Inspectors work a variable workweek that involves weekend, late evening, and early morning hours. Work is performed in various County establishments where incumbents may encounter confrontational, irate, or hostile employees and/or business owners. Physical efforts involve occasional standing for long periods and walking. Information gathered is confidential information and may not be discussed except for work related reasons, under the terms and conditions of the Maryland Public Information Act. Incumbents in this position are considered 'Essential' and may be required to report for work during natural/manmade disasters, and during special operations, as assigned. 'Essential' employees are expected to report or remain at work when other county employees are granted Administrative Leave.
