About The Position

Gen3 seeks a Linux Systems engineer to provide senior Linux engineering expertise for workloads and applications hosted across IRS Linux environments. The Linux Engineer ensures Linux-based systems integrate properly with data inventory and tagging (DIT), security controls, and multi-cloud Cybersecurity Information Protection Enhancement (CIPEC) tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of science or engineering in computer science, and/or related fields.
  • 10+ years Linux engineering.
  • At least one of the following certifications or similar: CompTIA Linux+, Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator, Red Hat Certified System Administrator, Red Hat Certified Engineer, Red Hat Certified Architect.
  • Deep understanding of scripting, hardening, access control, and security configurations.
  • Experience integrating Linux with enterprise cybersecurity and data loss prevention/data inventory and tagging tools.
  • Eligible to work for any employer in the United States without requiring sponsorship. Most of our positions require a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder for consideration. Certain positions require at least three (3) of the past five (5) years of residence in the United States.
  • A minimum of three (3) out of the past five (5) years of residency in the United States is mandatory.
  • Candidates must possess either an active green card or citizenship.
  • Prospective employees offered a position must have work authorization that does not necessitate employer-sponsored visa sponsorship, both presently and in the future.
  • Those selected for this role may undergo a government security investigation and must meet the eligibility criteria for accessing classified information or be eligible for security clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Support Linux-hosted application assessment, data discovery, tagging, and protection.
  • Develop security controls and implementation standards aligned with Zero Trust and IRS policies.
  • Integrate Linux systems with CIPEC monitoring, incident response, and data inventory and tagging workflows.
  • Provide troubleshooting and engineering support across hybrid on-prem/cloud Linux architectures.
  • Support data flow analysis, vulnerability mitigation, and compliance requirements.
