About The Position

World Business Lenders (WBL) is proud to offer short-term, real estate-backed commercial loans to a diverse range of small and medium-sized businesses across the United States, especially those who may find it challenging to secure traditional financing. Typically, the work schedule is from 9:00am to 6:00pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, though there might be times when additional hours are needed to meet business demands. We’re looking for someone with strong communication skills in both English, both spoken and written. Please note that all resumes should be submitted in English. We are seeking a Linux System Administrator who will be responsible for installing, configuring, securing, and maintaining the organization's Linux-based servers and associated infrastructure within an Azure Cloud environment. This position ensures that critical systems remain reliable, efficient, and recoverable, allowing business applications and services to operate seamlessly and securely.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred — but we also highly value equivalent hands-on experience!
  • 3 to 5 years hands‑on experience administering Linux servers in a production environment (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Rocky, Ubuntu).
  • Strong knowledge of Linux command line, system services, filesystems, and package management.
  • Experience with system monitoring tools and log analysis for troubleshooting performance and availability issues.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals as they relate to Linux servers (DNS, routing basics, firewalls).
  • Demonstrated experience with user and permission management, SSH, sudo, and basic security hardening.
  • Scripting proficiency in Bash; exposure to another scripting language (e.g., Python) is a plus.
  • Collaborates effectively across teams, partnering with application, database, networking, and security groups to ensure environments are delivered and supported in alignment with business needs.
  • Provides dependable Tier 2/3 support, approaching Linux‑related incidents and service requests with ownership, professionalism, and a calm presence during on‑call rotations.
  • Communicates with clarity and empathy, translating technical details into language that is accessible to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, especially during system changes, incidents, and impact discussions.
  • Linux server management, shell/Bash scripting, SSH, Linux security hardening.
  • Python knowledge is a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a system administrator within a cloud environment, including proficiency with container infrastructure such as Docker.

Responsibilities

  • System Installation, Configuration & Maintenance Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (physical and virtual) in production, test, and development environments.
  • Apply OS patches, kernel updates, and software upgrades in a controlled, documented manner.
  • Configure and manage key system services (e.g., SSH, web, database, cron, logging) according to standards and application requirements.
  • Maintain accurate system documentation, including build sheets, runbooks, and configuration records.
  • Availability, Performance & Monitoring Monitor system health, capacity, and performance using standard tools and dashboards; proactively address emerging issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve OS‑level, hardware, and basic network issues impacting Linux servers.
  • Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures; regularly test restores for critical systems and data.
  • Security & Compliance Enhance the security of Linux systems by expertly configuring firewalls, access controls, logging, and OS security settings in full alignment with company policies.
  • Oversee user and group accounts, fine-tune permissions, and manage sudo access to uphold strict least-privilege principles.
  • Swiftly apply security patches, vigilantly monitor logs for any unusual activity, and actively support incident investigations when necessary.
  • Automation, Scripting & Standards Create and enhance shell scripts and straightforward automations to simplify and speed up everyday administrative tasks, such as deployments, system checks, and housekeeping.
  • Play an active role in shaping and refining standard operating procedures and configuration baselines for our Linux environments.
  • Assist with the implementation and support of configuration management and orchestration tools in use, like Ansible or comparable platforms.
