About The Position

SMX is looking for a highly motivated Linux Systems Administrator with demonstrated experience to maintain the various systems used in a Software Development program. This position will provide onsite support at Patuxent River NAS in southern Maryland. As the Linux Systems Administrator, you will join a team of highly-driven, supportive, and skilled professionals engaged in supporting program management, technical, or business case analysis across the NAVAIR community.

Requirements

  • Clearance Required: Top Secret
  • An interim TS is required to start; will consider upgrading candidate from Secret
  • BS or BA degree in a Technical Discipline
  • High school diploma and 6 years’ additional experience within these functional duties; or an associate's degree and 4 additional years may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working with UNIX/Linux and Windows
  • Experience with the build, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Linux Servers (Red Hat, CentOS).
  • Must be DoD 8140 & 5239 compliant (Security+ certified and OS certificate/certification).
  • Experience in DoD Information Assurance/Cyber policy, specifically implementing STIGs and system hardening.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with VMware Tanzu
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for containerized applications
  • Experience with Ansible

Responsibilities

  • Container Integration: Utilize familiarity with containerization concepts to support application deployment. Assist with the management of container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm.
  • Automation & Scripting: Apply working knowledge of Ansible and other scripting tools to automate routine maintenance, server builds, and patching for optimum performance.
  • Development Support: Work within an Agile scrum methodology to provide infrastructure support for software development teams. Help maintain CI/CD pipelines for containerized applications.
  • Systems Maintenance: Install, configure, and manage Linux operating systems (Red Hat) and related toolsets.
  • Security & Compliance: Perform continuous monitoring, scanning, and hardening of systems to ensure they remain compliant with NAVAIR and DISA policies. Execute DoD STIG applications and other cyber compliancy actions.
  • Documentation & Operations: Maintain a robust knowledge base including system descriptions, procedures, and event logs. Respond promptly to system failures to ensure high availability for applications.
