About The Position

Persistent Systems is looking for a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team at our headquarters in NYC. The Linux Systems Administrator will play a critical role in ensuring our Linux servers and systems are configured and running optimally. This individual will solve complex database problems and play a critical role in the overall success of the organization. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • Proficiency with Bash, Python, or a UNIX oriented scripting language (particularly with a focus on automation)
  • Minimum of 6 years of systems administration experience in a small to medium sized business’s IT team
  • Experience working in a Linux environment as a system administrator
  • Familiarity with basic networking (IP addresses, routing, firewalls)
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools
  • Must have a US Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science or related field
  • 10 years of systems administration experience
  • Experience in Ansible
  • CompTIA Linux+ Certification
  • Experience working in an Enterprise Linux environment with any distribution
  • Experience with LUKS encryption and LVM management at scale
  • SELinux or AppArmor Endpoint Management
  • Containerization experience with Docker or equivalent a huge plus
  • Server Endpoint Automation and Deployment with Kubernetes or equivalent
  • CompTIA Server+ Certification
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer Certification

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage the installation, configuration and maintenance of Linux servers and workstations
  • Provide technical support for computer network issues
  • Collaborate with others to resolve information technology issues
  • Design integrated computer systems
  • Test computer hardware performance
  • Test software performance
  • Document operational activities
  • Install computer hardware
  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in accordance with best practices.
  • Perform system monitoring, integrity verification, and availability of hardware, server resources, and key processes
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any intrusions
  • Create, execute, and maintain data backup plan
  • Ensure all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media
  • Create, change, and or delete user accounts as required
  • Responsible for hardware/software asset management and deployment for new and existing employees
  • Provide help desk support and resolve issues for end-users
