About The Position

We are seeking a Linux Engineer to support and contribute to project-based initiatives across our Linux and middleware environments. This role is ideal for an engineer with solid hands-on Linux experience who enjoys building, deploying, and supporting application and infrastructure solutions as part of cross-functional project teams. You will work on implementing new services, deploying application environments, improving automation, and supporting upgrades and migrations for WebLogic, WebSphere, Oracle-based application environments, and web-based platforms. Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and KVM is valuable in this role. What Success Looks Like in This Role Project Execution & Delivery Participate in project teams to deliver Linux platform builds, environment deployments, configuration updates, and system enhancements. Assist in building and configuring Webservers, WebLogic, WebSphere, Oracle application environments, and related middleware components for new project implementations. Support project planning through technical input on requirements, sizing, performance expectations, and deployment steps. Linux Engineering & Automation Build, configure, and maintain Linux servers used in project deployments. Develop and maintain Linux shell scripts to automate recurring build and configuration tasks. Contribute to the design of automated code deployment pipelines that reduce manual work and increase consistency. Security, Compliance & Certificate Management Manage SSL certificates, key pairs, and security configurations required for project deployments. Ensure newly deployed environments meet audit, security, and compliance requirements. Support Linux integration with Active Directory for authentication within project scopes. Middleware & Application Environment Support Support deployments of IBM WebSphere Application Server (8.5.5 & 9.x) in project environments. Assist in building and maintaining WebSphere, IIS, and Oracle middleware environments as part of project deliverables. Help identify and troubleshoot issues during development, QA, and production rollout phases. Virtualization, Monitoring & Performance Deploy and configure servers within VMWare ESXi and KVM virtualized environments. Implement monitoring setups required for new applications or services. Assist with performance tuning during testing and go‑live activities. Collaboration & Documentation Provide clear technical documentation for deployments, configurations, and build procedures. Share knowledge and support handoff activities with L2 teams for newly delivered environments. Communicate project status and technical details effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree and 4–6 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux system administration and shell scripting.
  • Exposure to WebLogic, WebSphere, Oracle deployment or Oracle middleware environments, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of SSL certificates, security processes, and authentication frameworks.
  • Experience working in virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, KVM).
  • Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Jenkins, Git, etc.).
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to federal government contract requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience contributing to project-based deployments or implementation work.
  • Experience managing or supporting WordPress environments.
  • Located locally or within one hour of the Groton/New London, CT area.
