About The Position

Space Ground System Solutions (SGSS), a Parsons company, has an immediate full‐time opening for a System Administrator with a strong Linux, virtualization, and information security background. This role will support the Naval Research Laboratory in advancing the National Security Space mission by contributing to the maintenance, and synchronization of software development environments across multiple sites, synchronization of test, development and operational system environments, and R&D of new products and capabilities. The position will also be responsible for upgrading and maintaining the NIST 800-171 security posture of networked environments at the SGSS offices.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a TS/SCI clearance within 18 months of hire
  • S. in Computer Science/Engineering or other relevant field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of formal education
  • A minimum of two (2) years' professional software development experience
  • Proficiency developing and testing software in a Linux environment
  • Proficiency working in a Red Hat 7 or Red Hat 8 environment
  • Knowledge of industry practices, techniques and standards for Linux system administration and accreditation
  • Experience writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, PERL, Python, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of networking technology, TCP/IP and common internet application protocols
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 certified (Security+ CE certification or equivalent)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Object Oriented Programming C/C++ or JAVA in a Linux environment
  • Use of software configuration management tools (examples: GIT, ClearCase, Mercurial, etc.)
  • Documenting test results for corrective actions
  • Interacting with databases (examples: Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, etc.)
  • Writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, python, PERL, etc.)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Solid understanding of networking technology, TCP/IP and common internet application protocols
  • Experience with Satellite Ground Systems, Ground System Operations, or Satellite Operations

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement software for a large-scale command and control system
  • Develop software using C/C++ in a RHEL Linux environment
  • Create and execute system tests and document test procedures
  • Perform System and Software level Integration and Test for an operational environment
  • Troubleshoot software system issues
  • Knowledge of industry practices, techniques, and standards
  • Work as an effective team member across multiple disciplines (systems, networking, configuration management, & test engineering)
  • Work in a dynamic, fast-paced, & sometimes pressured environment
