About The Position

The Linux System Administrator will collaborate with various teams to support fast-paced, critical programs with classified information system capabilities. The role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining secure, cost-efficient environments across various classified programs. The Digital Technology (DT) organization ensures that RTX teammates can communicate, collaborate, and innovate for customer success. This position is onsite in St. Petersburg, FL.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Typically requires a University degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • Experience with Linux system administration.
  • Strong experience with RHEL 7/8/9, including system, firewalld, and SELinux.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise logging, monitoring, and alerting systems.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible.
  • Familiarity with CIS/STIG benchmarks and DoD security standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Linux OS Certificate (RHCSA / Linux+).
  • Experience with scanning tools such as Nessus and SCAP.
  • Experience with Splunk.
  • Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC) Environments.
  • Familiarity with NetApp / OnTap tools.
  • Experience with Enterprise Active Directory (AD) & LDAP.
  • Experience dealing with Managed Anti-Virus (AV) solutions (ClamAV & SEM).
  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite.
  • Scripting Experience (Bash, Python, Ansible) and Kickstart.
  • Experience hardening systems using tools like SCAP and following STIGs.
  • Experience supporting engineers in software, simulations, and hardware development.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, patch, and harden Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and related distributions.
  • Collaborate with Cyber to maintain and monitor system availability, performance, and logs using enterprise tools.
  • Configure and maintain STIG-compliant systems in accordance with DoD security standards.
  • Automate system tasks using Ansible and Bash shell scripting.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues across physical and virtualized environments (VMWare).
  • Work closely with security, network, and development teams to support mission objectives.
  • Support audit readiness activities and respond to security vulnerability findings.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior system administrators.
  • Leverage ticketing system to resolve incidents submitted by end users.
