The Linux/HPC Administrator at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is responsible for managing the Institute's scientific computing environment, focusing on the integrity, security, and performance of Linux operating systems.   • Assist in the management of the Institute's centralized computer cluster and associated storage.
  • Configure systems in alignment with security best practices.
  • Perform and validate system backup and monitoring.
  • Apply required system and application patches; package management; third-party software installation and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues and provide user support.
  • Configure Linux servers/workstations.
  • Support for lab Linux workstations and servers.
  • Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or directed.
  • High School diploma required; Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, or another scientific or technical field preferred.
  • At least three years of professional experience with Red Hat/CentOS or Ubuntu.
  • Experience with life science informatics applications and environments.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to document, track and execute requirements, policies, procedures, and system modifications.
  • Ability to work with others in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Experience with virtualization/container technologies (VMware, Apptainer, Docker, KVM, etc.).
  • Cluster management experience (Slurm preferred).
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2).
  • Network-attached storage (NAS) configuration and maintenance.
  • Automation using shell/Python.
  • Deployment and maintenance of web servers (Apache, nginx).
  • Database maintenance (MySQL/MariaDB).
  • Competitive salary range of $81,429 - $98,000.
