About The Position

The Systems Engineer will provide engineering and administrative support for maintaining multiple large Enterprise environments. The supporting infrastructure includes multiple Microsoft-based networks spanning multiple security enclaves within a hybrid (Windows & RHEL) operating environment. The role involves managing both physical and VDI-based Linux workstations and servers, identifying, designing, and implementing solutions using FOSS, COTS, or GOTS products to enhance and meet customer requirements. The engineer will troubleshoot user, workstation, and application functionality, performance, and incident resolution for Linux-based applications, and provide remote end-user support while training geographically dispersed Tier 2 and Tier 3 team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
  • 1+ years of related systems administration experience.
  • Must possess an appropriate and current DoD Information Assurance (IA) Certification.
  • Valid CompTIA Security+ CE, Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)-Security.
  • Must attain the required DoD 8570 Computing Environment (CE) Training within six (6) months of Hire Date.
  • US Citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • Integration and experience with Kerberos Authentication concepts and/or Microsoft Active Directory domain joined servers and workstations.
  • Strong understanding of DNS, DHCP and LDAP in a Windows or Linux environment.
  • Operating system deployment and Configuration Management via Satellite and/or Ansible Automation Platform.
  • Application Troubleshooting such as Firefox, Chrome, Java and/or Citrix based virtual applications.
  • Understanding of SMB/CIFS and NFS file sharing protocols.
  • Linux scripting (Python, Perl, Ruby, Bash).
  • Understanding of ServiceNow, NETS or other ticketing systems.
  • DoD STIG hardening.
  • ITIL v3 or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Management of both physical and VDI based Linux workstations and servers.
  • Identify, design, and implement solutions using FOSS, COTS or GOTS products.
  • Troubleshoot user, workstation and application functionality, performance, and incident resolution for Linux based applications.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve incidents with both short-term workarounds and long-term solutions.
  • Provide remote end user support and train geographically dispersed Tier 2 and Tier 3 team members.
  • Communicate effectively with team members in both small and large team environments.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.
