SAIC has an opening for a Linux/Cloud Engineer billet in Arlington, VA. SAIC is recognized as an IT leader in the intelligence and law enforcement spaces. This exciting opportunity will be supporting the United States Marshals Services' unique mission needs. We are seeking an individual to join the team who is fully committed to the success of USMS programs and bringing the best innovation, implementation, and attitudes to bear to the position. Description of Duties: This Linux/Cloud Engineer role is crucial for the Infrastructure Team that relies heavily on Red Hat technologies (and a few other Linux flavors) for supporting USMS IT operations, with a future path of Cloud technologies. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies while continuously building expertise in Linux-based enterprise solutions. The candidate will: be responsible for deploying, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments across various servers and cloud platforms troubleshoot and resolve service interruptions, including on-call support conduct day-to-day tasks that may include patch management using Satellite Server, performance tuning, troubleshooting system issues, and developing automation scripts using tools like Ansible collaborate closely with development, DevOps, and security teams to design and optimize infrastructure solutions contribute to project work that may involve system cloning, migrations, implementing security protocols, documenting work done and/or help with automation initiatives for more efficient IT operations

Requirements

  • Secret clearance or above
  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work-related experience
  • Fourteen (14) or more years’ experience; at least five (5) in System Engineering or System Administration
  • Solid understanding of Linux systems administration, network configuration, and scripting
  • Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), automation tools such as Ansible
  • Problem solving, communication, sharing knowledge, and teamwork are important soft skills for collaborating across IT teams and addressing technical issues efficiently
  • Experience with virtualization technologies like VMware or KVM and Linux-Active Directory integration

Nice To Haves

  • Worked in System Engineering or System Administration with government agencies
  • Linux Expertise: Deep knowledge of command-line interfaces, file systems, and system hardening for RHEL and/or Ubuntu (e.g., RHCE or CompTIA Linux+ certification).
  • Cloud & Virtualization: Proficiency in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, along with hypervisors like VMware or Hyper-V
  • Scripting & Automation: Ability to automate tasks using Bash, Python, or Perl, and configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Networking & Security: Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls (iptables/firewalld), and SSL/TLS. Network Security and infrastructure monitoring is a must
  • Containerization: Familiarity with Docker, Podman, and/or Kubernetes for managing microservices
  • Automation: Knowledge using Ansible and/or Puppet
  • The Engineer should be able to document, maintain secure, stable, and scalable enterprise environments while effectively supporting organizational goals
