About The Position

Looking for a summer job that truly makes a difference? The Allen County Public Library is hiring a LINK Programmer to help serve free lunches and lead fun, engaging programs for children and families in our community. Through a partnership with Fort Wayne Community Schools, this role supports children and teens up to age 18 by helping serve lunches and then creating a welcoming, joyful space for learning and play. If you're kind, creative, and genuinely enjoy working with kids, this could be the perfect summer role for you. LINK programming is about more than crafts and games - it's about connection, dignity, and creating positive experiences for kids who need them most. As part of the Allen County Public Library, you'll join a supportive team that believes in access, inclusion, and the power of learning. This position works Monday–Friday during daytime hours in June and July. Requirements

• Enjoys working with children and feels comfortable leading groups
• Kind, empathetic, and understanding of diverse and lower socioeconomic backgrounds
• Creative, energetic, and able to keep activities fun and light-hearted
• Confident, patient, and adaptable in a busy environment
• Passion for literacy, learning, and youth engagement

Responsibilities

• Help serve free lunches and snacks to children and teens (up to age 18)
• Plan and lead after-lunch programs for primarily lower elementary-aged children
• Prepare crafts, activities, and educational games
• Encourage literacy, learning, and curiosity in fun, age-appropriate ways
• Create a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for all participants
• Build respectful, supportive relationships with children and families
