The Class A Lineman is a skilled position focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This role involves working at various locations, potentially requiring travel to other states based on customer demands. Key responsibilities include safely performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work on energized and de-energized overhead systems, leading crew members when the Foreman is absent, and handling tasks such as stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, and installing various electrical components like transformers, lightning arrestors, and switches. The position also involves troubleshooting primary and secondary systems, replacing fuses, clearing faulted circuits, and frequently working with energized high voltage systems, which demands extreme skill and care. Maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order is also essential. The role requires rigorous physical labor, the ability to identify primary and secondary voltage, familiarity with induced voltage, and understanding grounding procedures. Linemen must be capable of working at heights and in confined spaces, properly installing and removing PPE, climbing various structures, and understanding how to phase out lines using phasing sticks. Planning safe work based on job prints or work orders, conducting pre-job briefings, performing reconductoring jobs safely, and working with live high voltage distribution power lines are also critical. The position requires working outdoors, often in inclement weather, and performing all other related duties as needed.
