About The Position
The Lineman A position at American Electric Power (AEP) involves performing a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and operation of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. The successful candidate will be expected to reside within 45 minutes of the Mt. Pleasant Service Center. This role builds upon the foundational skills and knowledge acquired as a Lineman B or equivalent, requiring a comprehensive understanding of both overhead and underground electrical systems. In this position, the Lineman A will be responsible for installing and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities, as well as all types of line equipment, even in the most congested construction environments, whether energized or de-energized. The role includes assembling, installing, maintaining, removing, and inspecting conductors, fixtures, and other associated equipment on both overhead and underground facilities. The Lineman A will operate various devices such as cutouts, line switches, reclosers, and other sectionalizing devices, and will be tasked with making energized cutovers from old poles and equipment to new or temporary installations. Additionally, the Lineman A will be expected to work with live line equipment on energized circuits for emergency repairs or routine modifications. The role also involves directing a crew when assigned, obtaining and issuing transmission and distribution clearances or permits, and instructing customers regarding service interruptions related to their electrical equipment. The position requires collaboration with other employees of equal or higher classification and may involve performing similar or less skilled work as needed.
