About The Position

Line Worker Apprentice – Electric Division The purpose of this classification is to perform construction, repair and maintenance of electric power transmission and distribution systems. Incumbents in this classification attend training to learn routine aspects of line work, perform manual labor, and assist experienced line workers with more technical aspects of work functions.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must reside within a radius of Orangeburg, SC that allows for a 30-minute maximum response.
Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s).
Must obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certificate, be climber certified, and complete Week 1 & 2 of Line Worker Training School within 12 months in position.
Must have the ability to satisfactorily complete Week 3 & 6 of Line Worker Training School.

Responsibilities

Attends and completes training sessions as required to gain skills and knowledge regarding division operations, technical job functions, and policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Determines materials and equipment required to complete assigned tasks
Performs manual labor associated with construction, maintenance and repair of power transmission and distribution systems
Adheres to established safety procedures
Assists with the installation, maintenance and repair of electric power transmission and distribution systems
Assists with installing, restoring, and repairing electric services and systems
Operates a personal computer and other electronic devices.
Utilizes maintenance, work order, or department-specific software.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies
May be required to work after normal business hours, weekends, holidays, Standby Duty or be called out as needed
