Position performs all types of work necessary for the construction, operation, maintenance and removal of the transmission and distribution system.

Requirements

  • Must have a working understanding of electrical theory and the principles of current voltage, resistance, and transformation.
  • Ability to read orders, plans, and work prints, and understand symbols is required.
  • Ability to rig, operate and use equipment and tools associated with line work, and work with limited supervision is required.
  • Current valid Maine driver's license is required.
  • Must acquire and maintain a valid State of Maine Class A Commercial Driver's license.
  • Participation in Controlled Substances and Alcohol Use and Testing Program is required.
  • Position requires identity verification and seven-year criminal background check.
  • Satisfactory completion of IBEW Apprenticeship training program or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the duties of the lower rated jobs in the Line Worker job progression.
  • Understands and is familiar with all circuits common to the transmission and distribution system.
  • Recognizes dangers inherent in the position and works in accordance with all established safety rules and regulations.
  • Attends and actively participates in scheduled safety meetings and training programs.
  • Performs with rubber protective equipment on voltages up to and including 15 KV.
  • Performs work with live line equipment on voltages up to and including 46 KV.
  • Operates trucks, vehicles and other equipment as required.
  • Instructs and directs workers in the lower line department job classifications as required.
  • Accurately prepares records of all time worked and materials used at the job site.
  • May act as Lead Worker during periods of temporary assignments or during the temporary absence of a rated Lead Worker.
  • Spends up to 90% of time in field operations.
  • Works closely and cooperatively with other crew members.
  • Reports problems or deviations associated with environmental issues to the Environmental Department.
