About The Position

Under the constant supervision of the Line Crew Leader, with moderate supervision of the Electric T&D Supervisor, installs new electrical transmission and distribution lines and maintains electrical service to OMU customers in accordance with all governmental safety regulations and company standards. Requires substantial judgment and analytic ability such as solving and troubleshooting problems or performing routine repairs. Remains on 24-hour call and standby for emergency repair work such as storm damage, vehicles damaging utility poles, or any other cause for power outages.

Requirements

  • High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 5 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
  • Valid Driver's License and Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • Completion of Classification Competency training program required.
  • Thorough knowledge of practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in construction, operation and maintenance of electrical power lines.
  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards associated with the work also needed.
  • Personal and commercial driver's licenses needed.
  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • First-Aid and CPR certification required.
  • Must have or acquire CDL license within first year.
  • Two to four years of electrical construction experience with six months to one year of general construction related background.
  • One year of experience operating heavy equipment such as derricks, buckets and other related tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles, repairs, disassembles and erects energized electrical distribution circuits including switches, transformers and/or cable.
  • Trains and instructs apprentice line workers in proper safety and methodology per company standards and government regulations. Fills in for Line Crew Leader and Trouble Tech when necessary.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, derricks, booms and related tools. Climbs poles and works long periods of time from elevated platforms.
  • Performs maintenance, repair and construction on underground distribution systems including installation, termination and repair of cable. Digging trenches and all other excavation techniques as required.
  • Maintains favorable customer relations.
  • Installs and maintains fiber optic cable and devices as required.
  • Works under Mutual Aid Agreements to restore power at other electric systems.
  • Works in all weather conditions and must be responsive to power restoration requests.
  • Maintains truck, equipment and tools ensuring all are operating safely and in good repair. Ensures all equipment is properly utilized for its individual purpose and is cleaned and stored after use.
  • Installs and maintains electrical transmission facilities.
  • Conducts system inspections.
  • Assists other departments and agencies as needed.
  • On 24-hour call and performs stand-by per schedule rotation.
  • This role requires a thirty-minute response time.
  • Adheres to all government safety codes and company standards and will complete all training in a timely manner.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
