About The Position

Maintains system levels as specified in system operating instructions; calculates amplifier output; sets and replaces distribution and line extender amplifiers. Diagnoses and changes out power supplies and line amplifiers in the field, as required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Electronics, preferred.
  • 6 years related technical experience in the CATV industry.
  • Serve as Service & CLI Technician for at least 2 years.
  • SCTE Certification.
  • Good communication and positive interpersonal skills.
  • Available to execute stand by shift.
  • Strive to perform efficiently outages within a given timeframe.
  • Available to assist in system outages after natural disasters such as hurricanes on 24/7 schedules, if needed.
  • Availability to be moved from area of worked due to operational needs.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Codes, FCC regulations and telecommunications transportation.
  • Strive to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting.
  • Ability to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position (e.g. signal level meters, ohm meters, etc.).
  • Domain in electrical and electronics.
  • Good analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Computer-literate, knowledge in Microsoft Office.
  • Customer Focus and service oriented.
  • Proven knowledge on Telecommunications, especially on cable, telephone, and Internet.
  • Knowledge in the usage of Business accounts equipment.
  • Knowledge on return activation and maintenance.
  • Valid driver’s license Cat. 5.
  • Valid electronic & electrical certification.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately uses stores and maintains VOM, DMM, system sweep, bench sweep, return loss bridge, spectrum analyzer and waveform monitor.
  • Sets trunk levels, sets-up and changes out trunk amplifiers, calculates signal level losses in cable and equipment for trunk lines and distribution lines, including fiber optic cables.
  • Performs installation, repairmen and stabilizing of nodes daily.
  • Installs electronics, makes power supplies connections, balances and tests battery loads and power supplies stand by operations.
  • Accurately use, stores, and maintains all test equipment used in systems.
  • Conducts systems tests such as: signal/noise, signal/hum, summation, and sweep, chart recording, return Loss Bridge, including monthly, semi-annual, and annual tests.
  • Assumes full responsibility for trouble shooting and repair of the entire distribution and trunk system.
  • Responsible for working with and handling contractors, preparing detailed work prints, writing Job Cost estimates, and creating a bill of materials (BOM) for aerial and underground projects.
  • Responsible for project through to completion, including, monitoring contractor progress up to and including processing of invoices from contractors to assure Company specifications are met.
  • Assists and effects interface for required revisions to strand and design maps.
  • Climbs poles, ladders, towers, and other structures as needed. Lifts and carries loads of up to 150 lbs. using appropriate equipment.
  • Safely and efficiently operate tools including OTDR, fusion splicer, power meter, light and traffic meter, ladders, step ladders, truck mounted aerial lift devices, and assorted hand tools.
  • Resolve digital problems from HSD modem back to distributions, front line, optical nodes to head-end.
  • Solves problems power supplies as required.
  • Perform field engineering to include assessing the site, detailing the layout, resolving proposed location of electronics equipment (such as node locations, power supplies, taps and amplifier locations).
  • Operates Bucket Trucks in compliance with company safety procedures.
  • Responsible for using PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) provided by the company.
  • Perform temporizations of feeder and trunk cable. Performs all work in a safe manner ensuring the safety of co-workers, customers, the general public, and the employee. All work is done in mentorship with the National Electric Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and OSHA regulations.
  • Drives Company vehicles every single day and maintains accurate inventory of vehicle stock.
  • Demonstrates and ensures compliance with The Customer 1st Philosophy, Liberty Latin America Code of Conduct and Liberty safety standards and procedures.
