About The Position

The Line Mechanic-D position at American Electric Power involves assisting in the installation, maintenance, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. The role requires operating line trucks and associated equipment, working under supervision to ensure safety and compliance with operational standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • No prior experience required, but line work experience or line school education is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Must acquire a CDL beginners permit within 60 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) selection test is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the assembly, installation, maintenance, removal, and inspection of underground facilities and associated equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform ground person duties under supervision.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and maintaining poles, towers, and structures.
  • Operate company equipment and climb poles and ladders after completing required training.
  • Splice primary and secondary overhead wires using proper tools and techniques.
  • Test de-energized overhead lines and install/remove personal protective grounds under supervision.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a safe and orderly fashion.
  • Perform housekeeping duties and report irregularities.
  • Safely execute pole top and bucket truck rescue processes as trained.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit reports as required.
