About The Position

The Line Equipment Man is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical or communication lines and associated equipment. This role includes preparing tools and materials, operating equipment, and supporting line crews in field operations. The Line Equipment Man ensures that all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. The position involves a range of tasks, including: Operation: Operate various machinery, vehicles, or equipment according to manufacturer specifications and best practices. This can include moving levers, pushing pedals, or turning valves to maneuver equipment. Maintenance: Perform daily inspections, basic maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment. This also includes troubleshooting and implementing solutions for equipment issues. Safety: Adhere to all safety requirements and protocols for the job site and equipment operation. Report any safety hazards or malfunctions to supervisors. Record-keeping: Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Training: Train other employees on the proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Compliance: Ensure equipment and operations comply with all relevant safety and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Several years of experience in operating and maintaining equipment is necessary.
  • Vocational training or an apprenticeship is preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to quickly learn how to operate different types of machinery.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents like blueprints and schematics.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Understanding of relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting and working in various conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Work with and assist crew members in all matters relating to material and yard organization and material acquisition
  • Safety oversight of all yard activity and personnel
  • Supervise all rigging activities
  • Collect invoices and packing slips and get them to the project manager
  • Operate various class forklifts and/or cranes/boom trucks
  • Operate trucks and ATVs
  • Load and unload trucks with material, wire/cable, and all types of utility poles
  • Sort and organize material and poles in yards
  • Inspect the condition of the material, wire/cable, and all types of utility poles
  • Make minor repairs
  • Tagging
  • Kitting, packaging, and staging for contractors
  • Deliveries to contactors
  • Building material cribbing
  • Pick up trash and clean the yards, equipment, and associated outbuildings
