We’re seeking a Line Designer to take ownership of electrical distribution design projects while helping establish and grow our presence in a new Michigan office. As we continue expanding, office location will be flexible based on the strongest candidate, with focus areas including Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, Grand Haven, and surrounding communities. In this role, you’ll lead distribution design efforts, serve as a trusted technical resource for clients, and collaborate with a growing team to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions that power communities.

Requirements

  • Open to an Associate’s degree or higher; Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of overhead and underground electrical distribution and sub-transmission systems.
  • Proficiency with Utility Design Software.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge of utility standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant coursework or training in electrical distribution systems, CAD, and GIS is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, including sub-transmission line routing, ensuring compliance with utility standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the development of detailed construction drawings, system layouts, and technical specifications using Utility Design software and other engineering design tools.
  • Serve as the primary technical lead during construction, providing field support, resolving complex design issues, and ensuring projects are executed according to plan.
  • Direct inspections and engineering analyses of existing distribution infrastructure to evaluate system integrity, reliability, and long-term performance.
  • Drive infrastructure upgrades and capital improvement projects by managing cost estimates, schedules, engineering calculations, and cross-functional coordination.
