About The Position

The St. James Hotel is an iconic, boutique hotel providing modern conveniences, yet steeped in rich history and Victorian charm. The Hotel offers luxurious amenities and culinary delights delivered by remarkable hospitality professionals. We are seeking a skilled Seasonal Cook to join our culinary team. As a Seasonal Cook, you will assist the Chef in preparing and executing delicious meals according to our seasonal menus while maintaining high standards of quality, cleanliness, and safety. We are looking for engaging team members and are willing to train people with great attitude and professional style. This position involves working 20-40 hours per week during the summer over a combination of days/afternoons/evenings and weekends, with the possibility to extend availability to work part-time up to 20 hours per week during May, September, and October, accommodating desired work schedules with availability to work evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work safely in a kitchen environment.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and cooking techniques.
  • Understanding of standardized recipes and cooking terminology.
  • Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, and volume.
  • Familiarity with food allergens and dietary restrictions.
  • Attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all foods for daily service in accordance with seasonal menus and health/sanitation guidelines.
  • Cook hot and cold food products accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist in food and final plate preparation, including plating and garnishing.
  • Ensure proper portioning and cooking of all menu items.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment.
  • Communicate effectively with the Chef to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Address guest complaints and problems professionally to ensure satisfaction.
