The Limited Scope Radiographer performs diagnostic imaging procedures within the scope of their license according to established protocols and competency standards. This role ensures safe, high‑quality imaging while prioritizing patient comfort, communication, and care coordination.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Practical Radiologic Technologist / Limited Scope Operator in the state of practice, or ARRT Board Registry Eligible (per state requirements).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
  • Competency in at least one of the following imaging areas: Chest Extremities Spine Skull Podiatry Bone Densitometry (DEXA)
  • Anatomy knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate patient identification, order verification, and appropriate exam preparation.
  • Provides compassionate, patient-centered care and responds sensitively to patient and family needs.
  • Clearly explains imaging procedures to patients and caregivers to encourage cooperation and reduce anxiety.
  • Addresses patient questions and concerns appropriately.
  • Performs radiologic exams that produce high‑quality diagnostic images while maintaining strict safety standards.
  • Follows correct protocols, positioning, equipment use, and radiation protection guidelines.
  • Recognizes emergent patient conditions and responds quickly and effectively.
  • Completes all required documentation thoroughly, including time stamps and image storage.
  • Communicates pertinent information to care teams following procedures to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment with well‑arranged supplies and equipment.
  • Actively pursues ongoing education and skill development, especially regarding new equipment and procedures.
