About The Position

The Meadows Campus production staff is the team responsible for the production implementation of all concerts, rehearsals and events which occur on the Aspen Music Festival & School’s (AMFS) Meadows Campus. These facilities include a 2,050-seat Klein Music Tent and the 500-seat Harris Concert Hall. The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive expertise in theatrical lighting systems and a proven ability to lead a crew. The Lighting Supervisor works under the supervision of the Production Manager and Assistant Production Managers.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or graduated with a BA/BFA in a Technical Theatre degree with an emphasis in lighting design or electrics or a minimum of 2 years professional experience in the field in lieu of a degree.
  • Broad knowledge and fluency in theatrical lighting and expertise in the safe rigging of truss systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a production crew for load in/out, and work calls.
  • Candidate must have sensitivity to the needs of staff, guest artists, faculty, and student performers, and designers, with a proven ability to work well with others.
  • Candidate must be independently motivated, manage time effectively, possess safe work habits at large heights in catwalks and grids, and the ability to climb stairs and ladders comfortably and repeatedly.
  • Candidate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and materials or, of greater weights in tandem with additional crew member assistance.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license. A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the technical operation of lighting systems in three venues – the Klein Music Tent, Harris Concert Hall and Entertainment Tent, ensuring all lighting requests are met both small and large.
  • Maintain a well-organized inventory of AMFS-owned fixtures, deploy a seasonal rental package of additional fixtures, and manage power distribution.
  • Train and supervise crew in the proper operation of lighting systems for rehearsals and concerts.
  • Keep accurate lighting documentation including rep plots, channel hookup, and instrument schedules.
  • May be assigned design opportunities throughout the season where appropriate and dependent on prior experience.
  • Coordinate with the Production Manager on crew needs for work calls.
  • This position will also assist the Meadows production team as crew for events if necessary.
