The Ford Global Core Exterior Lighting and ADAS Sensor Protection Engineer role spans a variety of engineering fields including mechanical, electrical, software and optics. This role requires an engineer to lead and drive a cross functional team that includes lighting engineers, systems engineers, lighting suppliers, studio, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, or other relevant discipline).
  • 3+ years of lighting or ADAS sensor protection applications and/or other relative experience.
  • 3+ years of body exterior applications and/or other relative experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree or other Advanced Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Optical).
  • 5+ years of lighting applications and/or other related experience.
  • Familiarity with Design For Six Sigma process.
  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Knowledge of plastic materials, plastic injection molding, optics, basic electrical/electronic circuitry, lamp manufacturing processes, tooling, fixture design and product validation.
  • Knowledge of global lighting regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) Core Documentation and Prevent Recurrence Actions (PRAs).
  • Design Rules, Requirements, and other standards/documentation.
  • Commodity technology and sourcing strategies.
  • Cost Models.
  • Benchmarking.
  • Pre-Program Start (PS) lead.
  • High Impact Requirement (HIR) expertise and signoffs.
  • Lighting technology evaluation and development.
  • Lighting testing standards and development.
  • ADAS sensor protection standards and technology development.
  • CAD/CAE support.
  • Headlamp aiming standards and process.
  • IIHS and other vehicle level testing.
  • Global lighting team interface meetings and design reviews.
  • Regulatory interpretation support.
  • Manage Exterior Lighting and ADAS Sensor Protection Labs.
  • Communicate information to and from internal and external organizations.
  • Lead cross-functional team meetings(suppliers, designers, engineers, manufacturing, STA, etc.).
  • Travel as required (including international).
