About The Position

This advanced-level position is for individuals with 4–6 years of experience in lighting design. The role involves applying advanced concepts and developing innovative design solutions for large projects. You will manage all phases of projects—from proposal development through construction completion—with authority to direct, control, and monitor activities. Responsibilities include budgeting, scheduling, planning, design, specifications, and working drawings.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Expertise in design software: Agi32 (or similar), AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, InDesign, SketchUp, Newforma.
  • Client Focus: Prioritize customer needs and maintain strong relationships.
  • Understanding Role & Responsibilities: Communicate expectations and performance standards clearly.
  • Quality of Work: Demonstrate accuracy, attention to detail, and adherence to Design Quality Assurance (DQA) procedures.
  • Dependability: Meet deadlines and fulfill commitments reliably.
  • Flexibility: Adapt to changing conditions and demands.
  • Teamwork: Share ideas openly and collaborate effectively.
  • Writing Skills: Produce clear, complete reports.

  • 4–6 years in lighting design and/or project management for long-term projects.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Lighting Design, Management, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of energy codes.

Nice To Haves

  • Lighting Certified (LC) through NCQLP.
  • Professional society involvement and/or industry leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced concepts and solve complex problems independently.
  • Develop medium and complex reports; troubleshoot operating systems.
  • Create specifications for medium and complex projects.
  • Perform lighting calculations, analysis, and rendering studies; use results to inform decisions.
  • Document lighting layouts in Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • Assist with lighting mock-ups and design presentations.
  • Support design presentations and construction documentation for architectural lighting projects.
  • Take responsibility for lighting calculations, energy/economic analysis, and building certification compliance credits.
  • Provide technical assistance on design, installation, and integration issues for innovative lighting solutions.
  • Supervise junior lighting designers as needed.
  • Review submittals and respond to contractor inquiries during construction.
  • Produce meeting reports and punch lists.
  • Manage multiple large-scale projects and design staff.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets effectively.
  • Mentor less experienced designers.
  • Occasional out-of-town travel for project work or site visits.
  • Support marketing efforts.
