About The Position

The Work: The Lighting Designer Engineer will deliver advanced technical and design expertise for programming and troubleshooting venue lighting systems. This critical role involves designing and managing lighting plans, programming state-of-the-art digital lighting consoles, coordinating with production teams, and ensuring seamless integration of special effects for high-quality event execution. The Lighting Designer Engineer must possess a detailed understanding of industry-standard lighting systems, consoles, fixtures, and rigging practices. This role will showcase collaborative teamwork, creative problem-solving, and technical mastery in lighting design, addressing cutting-edge lighting technologies and protocols for interactive, immersive, and professional productions. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent relevant work experience in Theatrical Lighting Design, Architectural or Interior Design, Lighting, or Architectural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant lighting design experience.
  • Mastery in design utilizing Light Converse, AutoCAD, Revit, InDesign, and MS Office or equivalent. Current CORE certification in Vectorworks mandatory, higher certificates preferred.
  • Mastery in programming/operating a High End Hog 4 Lighting Console, ETC LED LUSTR fixtures, Martin MAC moving light fixtures, and maintenance therein. Must be able to correctly configure and deploy Proplex series DMX universes.
  • Proficiency in the following technologies: ETC Sensor 3 dimming racks, architectural and theatrical luminaires, DMX, DALI, 0-10A, BACnet, KNX, or equivalent.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain a theatrical lighting system, to include Martin, MAC, Robe, and other professional lighting fixture make/models. If a fixture cannot be fixed in-house, LD will plan, schedule, and track fixtures out for service with a professional repair facility.
  • Ability to operate follow spots while simultaneously calling lighting cues.
  • Experience in collaborating with video teams to adjust color temperature to aid in white balancing/chipping.
  • Possess a valid REAL ID Driver’s License or similar government-approved identification to obtain military installation access.
  • Maintain reliable mode of transportation.
  • Due to the nature of work at the client’s facility, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

  • Ability to work autonomously and in collaboration with cross-discipline teams.

Responsibilities

  • Program digital lighting consoles across diverse production environments.
  • Design professional lighting plots, patch lists, and assist with the rigging plan to ensure compliance with indoor/outdoor venue requirements and client vision.
  • Address digital fixtures and special effects coordination, including lasers, fog machines, and advanced lighting elements.
  • Configure, test, and troubleshoot lighting and special effect systems for live productions, rehearsals, and pre-recorded environments to ensure reliable and professional execution.
  • Familiarity with diagnosing connectivity issues related to DMX, digital consoles, and other lighting protocols.
  • Demonstrate mastery of multiple lighting network protocol languages (e.g., DMX and other advanced protocols) to ensure industry-standard functionality.
  • Showcase experience with multiple cue lists, advanced event list programming, and LED color mixing technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
