LIGHT EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

About The Position

Operates and controls light equipment such as sewer jetting machine, air compressor, dump trucks, tapping machines and others as assigned. Other duties may be assigned. Operates light equipment and hand tools such as sewer jetting machine, air compressor, tapping machines, trucks and other machines utilized in the maintenance and construction of water and sewer lines or facilities. Uses larger machines and hand tools as required. Responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance on all light equipment. Job duties include those of the Utility Worker as well as the proficient use of all equipment classified as light equipment. Knowledge of the proper and safe operation of light equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.); or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports and manuals.
Ability to convey thoughts both orally and in written form.
Must be able to follow simple instructions.
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 1O's and 100's.
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or- two step instructions.
Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Valid Tennessee Driver's License
Ability to stand, walk, climb and/or balance.
Required to use hands, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
Regularly required to lift and move up to 25 lbs., frequently lift and/or move 50 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move 100 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance and color vision.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
Occasionally, the employee is exposed to wet conditions; high, precarious places; acidic, toxic, or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; noise level in the work environment can be loud.
