About The Position

The Principal Trader Light Ends in Houston is responsible for origination, trading, and chartering activities associated with the organization's energy commodities and products. This role involves book management, flow assurance, asset-backed trading, and chartering activities related to Equinor commodities. The successful candidate will utilize their knowledge independently to solve highly complex tasks with a short to medium-term tactical impact, addressing key business challenges that align with Equinor's strategy. The position requires effective communication within the team and with key stakeholders, navigating conflicting agendas, leading negotiations, and promoting change initiatives while adhering to safety, ethics, and compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred, although extensive experience can compensate for lack of qualifications.
  • 10+ years of relevant trading experience, predominantly from the gasoline and light ends market.
  • Ability to establish trading and marketing contacts in the industry through networking, preferably with an existing network in place.
  • Deep understanding of risk, pricing structures, shipping, and contracts required.
  • Demonstrable trading results over time and the ability to develop trading strategies based on sound commercial judgment.
  • Clear and demonstrable analytical ability.

Responsibilities

  • Market and trade physical equity and third party products, focusing on Gasoline and Naphtha in North and South American markets.
  • Develop and implement trading strategies, manage pricing exposures based on market views and information, and plan and lead negotiations.
  • Gather and share market information and insights into US refining and products markets.
  • Work closely with Origination teams to develop long-term export opportunities from North America in line with the Global Light Ends asset-backed trading strategy.
  • Maintain and develop key customer relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Optimize value and utilization of assets (pipeline, rail, barges, storage positions, etc.).
  • Responsible for P&L reporting and timely, accurate deal entry of all deals into trade capture systems.
  • Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations of marketing, shipping, and trading activities.
  • Understand and comply with all rules and regulations regarding commercial marketing and trading activities.
