KBR is seeking a Lifting Device and Equipment Engineer to provide day-to-day technical responsibility of the lifting device and equipment safety efforts for NASA GSFC.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understands a broad range of systems and risk as it applies to programmatic, technical and cost concerns.
  • Experience with maintenance, inspection, and certification of lifting devices and equipment (such as cranes, hoists, powered industrial trucks, mobile elevated work platforms, rigging hardware, lifting slings, and below-the-hook lifting devices).
  • BS in Engineering (i.e., structures or mechanical)
  • 10 or more years of engineering experience
  • All applicants must be eligible for work in the United States and able to support NASA GSFC operations in Greenbelt, MD.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified to perform NDT inspections (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Maintains overall knowledge of NASA Safety Policy (which includes the Lifting Standard) and ensures customer satisfaction by responding to customer requirements encompassing this safety engineering discipline.
  • Coordinate with Facility Operations Managers, lab managers, project points of contact, and equipment owners to schedule and conduct tasks, minimizing facility conflicts.
  • Properly identifying customer problems and issues, researching program requirements, and determining the most effective solution given technical qualifications and contractual requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed deficiency reports within 24 hours of discovery to LDE owners to facilitate timely resolution.
  • Work with NASA safety and LDE Manager to ensure all documentation is reviewed and approved within three business days of submission.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to LDE owners.
  • Communicate with NASA safety regarding requirements and equipment status changes.
  • Notify LDE owners of items tagged out of service (OOS) and provide resolution plans.
  • Provide guidance and works independently with the customer.
  • Interacts regularly with customer representatives concerning work in progress.
  • Interface with reliability, quality, and systems engineering to assess applicable risk to programmatic, technical and cost concerns.
  • Interfaces regularly at all levels, keeping management informed of task status, discussing newly proposed tasks, and making presentations.
  • Reviews lift plans; review accident reports; performs and/or reviews hazard assessments; develops trade-off studies, corrective action system elements and prepares reports.
