About The Position

The Beede Swim & Fitness Center in Concord, MA is seeking lifeguards for various shifts, Monday-Sunday between 5:30A-9:00P. Our 35,000 square-foot complex combines modern features and equipment with the warmth and friendliness that only a community recreation center can offer. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required although the Center is willing to run free lifeguard certification classes for those that are interested in becoming certified if consistent work schedules are coordinated. Additional perks of the job include a free membership to the swim and fitness facilities for the length of employment and reduced class fees for employee and their family members. Pay range: $15.75 - $20.00/hour; starting pay based on qualifications. This is an hourly, part-time position. Year round and seasonal help wanted. Requirements

  • Required certification: ARC Lifeguard Training
  • Preferred certification: Water Safety Instructor
  • Age 16 years or older (work permit needed if under 18)
  • Working knowledge of multi-pool aquatic facility, procedures and equipment.
  • Thorough working knowledge of and ability to perform lifesaving techniques, CPR and First Aid.
  • Ability to swim.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the public, including children and young adults, in a courteous and tactful manner and to fairly and tactfully enforce facility rules and regulations.
  • Regular attendance at the workplace is required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains watchfulness over pools to prevent dangerous situations.
  • Monitors and assists swimmers.
  • Enforces all pool and facility rules; follows all safety-related procedures.
  • Provides basic first aid.
  • Performs rescue if appropriate, calls for help, provides emergency care, interviews witnesses, and files reports.
  • Maintains a high level of expertise and professionalism.
  • Attends mandatory in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Maintains proper attire; reports with provided shirt, whistle.
  • Remains aware of all fitness and pool related classes and programs run by the Recreation Division in order to promote programs.
  • Performs basic water testing and light maintenance in and around pools.
  • Provides adequate notice if unable to work a scheduled shift; arranges for a substitute lifeguard and obtains approval from Management.
  • Arrives on time and is ready to work when each assigned shift begins.
