About The Position

The Parks and Recreation Department is looking to fill multiple Lifeguard positions at the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool! As a lifeguard at Augustus Brown Swimming Pool, under general supervision, you will be responsible to for ensuring the safety and enjoyable experience for guests using the facility by, monitoring swimmers, enforcing rules, responding to emergencies, providing care in an emergency, and maintaining the cleanliness of the facility.

Requirements

• Certified as American Red Cross Lifeguard or the equivalent.
• First Aid and CPR certificates.
• At least 15 years of age at time of appointment.
• Eligible to receive a General Duties Work Permit from the Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development, if under the age of 17.

Nice To Haves

• Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
• Specialized certification in diving, scuba diving or kayaking.

Responsibilities

• Monitor swimmers and respond to situations where their safety may be compromised.
• Observe guests as they swim and monitor their proficiency.
• Maintain a safe environment by enforcing rules.
• Provide care to guests who may become injured or encounter a physical ailment.
• Maintain a clean environment, free of trash and clutter.
• Participate in the removal of snow from the facilities entrance during winter.
• Monitor the safe operation of aquatic attractions.
