About The Position

The YMCA of Southern Nevada is looking for lifeguards and swim instructors to join our team this summer! In this position you will monitor activities in swimming areas to keep participants safe and provide lessons to people learning how to swim. If you are not yet lifeguard certified, no problem. All certifications can be obtained through the YMCA after applying. This is a part-time in-person position. We are currently hiring for seasonal positions at all YMCA locations (Bill and Lillie Heinrich, Durango Hills, Centennial Hills and Skyview). Seasonal training will be held from May 15th - May 18th, 2026. Outdoor seasonal pools are open from May 22nd - September 7th. There may be an opportunity to begin working sooner at one of our indoor pool locations.

Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or GED, or degree in progress.
  • Minimum of three months’ relevant experience or training.
  • Must successfully pass a water test consisting of lifeguard strokes and general rescue skills.
  • Must be 15 years of age or older.
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • Current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (includes AED), First Aid, and O2 Certifications
  • All certifications can be obtained through the YMCA after applying.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce aquatic safety and maintenance standards and guidelines.
  • Monitor all activities in the aquatic area.
  • Assure the safety of members and guests as the single overriding objective.
  • Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly or by following provided plans.
  • Maintain attendance and skill accomplishment records.
  • Promote association programs and objectives as well as the national goals of the YMCA, including character development.
  • Builds and maintains a high standard of member service with all members.
  • Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  • Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Maintain needed aquatic certifications.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attend required abuse risk management training.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Report essential abuse risk management information to their supervisor, executive director, or human resources.
