About The Position

Deliver high quality recreation services for residents, visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the District’s safety and administrative policies and procedures. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or in process.
  • Minimum 16 years of age and Lifeguard Certified, or certified within 30 days.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in the workplace.
  • Must possess strong swimming skills along with the ability to communicate instructions in a professional and keen manner.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and work well with the public and other staff.
  • Must display a high degree of emotional maturity while keeping difficult situations in proper perspective.
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to process information accurately, and use independent judgment when needed.
  • Must have or complete CPR/AED/First Aid Certification and Mandated Reporter certification prior to starting work and within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate ability to work independently or with limited direction; anticipate needs for successful operation of facility.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while performing duties, and while on park district premises.
  • Abide by uniform standards while on duty.
  • Maintain and promote excellent customer service relations with patrons, staff and affiliates.
  • Supervise general public swim by maintaining a proactive scanning pattern. Be at assigned station before patrons enter the pool, and until all patrons exit the pool.
  • Strictly enforce all general safety rules and improve public and employee knowledge by preventing, confronting and correcting unsafe behavior.
  • Secure a substitute for any scheduled hours that cannot be worked.
  • Assist in daily cleaning of assigned areas. Help maintain overall cleanliness of facility.
  • Assist with aquatic programs, events, rentals, and group visits.
  • Continue education by attending in-service, staff meetings, and training sessions.
  • Understand and utilize the communication resources of the entire facility including but not limited to two-way radios, phones and the PA system.
  • Recognize, report, and respond to any unsafe conditions and pool hazards and execute effective emergency action plans.
  • Maintain and carry out all City, County, State Health Departments, and the St. Charles Park District’s rules and regulations.
