About The Position

Lifeguard at Zemurray Pool The Lifeguard works at Zemurray Pool, ensuring safety of patrons and staff; supplying information regarding facility maintenance of water quality, providing life safety, communicating and enforcing City of Hammond Recreation department regulations and promoting good customer service. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to: Assist in taking admission fees for public recreational swimming and swimming lessons Participating in maintenance of facility including, filtration, chlorination system, cleanliness, sanitation, minor repair and maintenance; cleaning restrooms, emptying trash cans and other duties as assigned. Ensuring safety of patrons, watching for and preventing and notifying patrons and Head Lifeguard of unsafe conditions, accidents or occurrences, administering first aid when required; reports all accidents immediately to Head Lifeguard/Pool Coordinator, and/or Recreation Supervisor, Director (chain of command) Performs such other duties as assigned by Recreation Administration.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at aquatics facilities
  • Ability to adjust programs as necessary to ensure the safety of the visitors and other staff
  • Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions
  • Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety
  • Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
  • Age 16 or older
  • Current American Red Cross or YMCA Standard First Aid Card
  • Swim Class Instructors should possess a current Water Safety Instructor Certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Graduate preferred.
