About The Position

Summary of Duties: Under the general supervision of the Head Lifeguard and Pool Supervisor, Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring public safety, enforcing pool rules, preventing accidents, overall cleanliness of the facility and applying disciplinary action for violators. Expected to perform rescues, apply necessary first aid, activate the Emergency Medical System, and assist advanced medical personnel and notifying proper authorities during emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Education: Less than high school education.
  • Experience: No related experience or training required. Previous lifeguarding experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of: Aquatic activities; lifeguarding; CPR and first aid application; water safety practices and procedures.
  • Skill in: Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing demonstrating strong swimming abilities; providing tactful customer service.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Must obtain or possess a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification (required training classes for position will be provided by and must be taken though The Woodlands Township).
  • Reliable transportation to work is required. Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license, preferred.
  • Must attend in-service training weekly and pass audits conducted by the Aquatics Leadership staff.
  • Due to the seasonal nature of this role, Lifeguards must be available for a minimum of 25 hours per week. Lifeguarding staff are generally scheduled two (2) days off per week, with fourteen (14) additional unpaid days off available for the entire season (Memorial Day through Labor Day).
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years of age by July 1, 2026.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) check, and Social Security Number verification check.
  • This position is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor pool activities, ensure consistent enforcement of the Township rules and policies, and educate patrons of the purpose of these rules and policies. Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and provide swimming instructors as appropriate.
  • Actively scan within specific area of responsibility in accordance with training. Identify and respond to emergency situations; administers care, CPR, or first aid as appropriate.
  • Inspect facilities for cleanliness and to ensure they are free of hazards.
  • Perform general maintenance in and around the pool to include determining the chlorine content and pH value of water with water testing kit.
  • Wear prescribed uniform. Conduct oneself in a professional manner while in Township uniform and/or at a Township facility/pool.
  • Report any hazardous situations, then eliminate or minimize the danger.
  • Assist with greeting patrons/guests at the front desk, scanning daily passes and provide excellent customer service.
  • Attend required in-service training as required by the Aquatics Department.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
