About The Position

Calling all Lifeguards! We would love to expand our Aquatics staff! Join our team, working in our beautiful Aquatic Center - home to 3 pools (2 competitive and one family/therapy pool). The New Canaan YMCA is especially looking for Early Bird Lifeguards to staff our opening shifts, beginning at 5:15 am. These premium shifts come with PREMIUM pay, with an additional shift differential on top of the base hourly rate (starting rate for Early Bird shifts is $19.00 an hour) Shifts can be flexible based on interest and staffing needs - with both Early Shifts and Weekends having a premium pay differential! Working as a lifeguard gives great flexibility, working one (or several!) shifts a week, at a time that meets your availability. An added bonus is that every employee receives free membership to our Y! Our pools are open from 5:30am to 9pm during the week, 7:30am to 6:30pm on Saturdays, and 7:30am to 5pm on Sundays - shifts are usually 3 hours. Under the direction of the Senior Director of Aquatics, lifeguards provide quality surveillance, and act swiftly and professionally in emergency situations. We expect our Lifeguards to be observant to their surroundings, enforce safety rules and policies, and communicate with swimmers, instructors, and other staff to maintain order and safety in the pool and on deck.

Requirements

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate or equivalent.
Ability to swim continuously for 300 yards.
Perform all tasks necessary for water rescue.
