About The Position

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all members and guests in and around aquatic facilities. This position requires continuous surveillance, enforcement of safety policies, emergency response readiness, and professional member interaction. Lifeguards serve as safety leaders and represent the highest standards of aquatic supervision and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 15 years of age (in accordance with state labor regulations)
  • Current Lifeguarding Certification from a nationally recognized provider (e.g., American Red Cross)
  • Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Certification
  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Ability to pass pre-employment swim skills evaluation
  • Ability to pass regular in-service rescue skill assessments
  • Strong swimming endurance and physical stamina
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-stress situations
  • Strong situational awareness and attention to detail
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Ability to enforce rules firmly and professionally
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to swim 300+ yards continuously
  • Ability to tread water without hands for extended duration
  • Ability to retrieve objects from pool depths
  • Ability to lift or assist in lifting individuals in rescue scenarios
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, sun, wind)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a private club, resort, or luxury hospitality environment.
  • Previous experience working in lifeguard programs and teaching swim lessons.
  • Knowledge of pool maintenance basics and recreational water safety guidelines.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and team-oriented attitude aligned with Martis Camp’s Ambassador culture.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain constant visual surveillance of assigned zones.
  • Prevent accidents through proactive rule enforcement and member education.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to aquatic and non-aquatic emergencies.
  • Activate and execute the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) when necessary.
  • Perform water rescues, CPR, AED use, and First Aid within certification scope.
  • Clear pool and deck during lightning or severe weather protocols.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections of aquatic areas and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment.
  • Complete accurate and timely incident and accident reports.
  • Communicate professionally with members, guests, and team members.
  • Attend and successfully complete required in-service trainings.
