About The Position

The primary responsibility as a lifeguard is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Candidates must be able to ensure the safety of members by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. This person will need to be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills and possess the ability to work with diverse populations. Lifeguards must be able to enforce pool policies and be able to communicate effectively why policies are in place.

Requirements

  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Required.
  • Current CPR/ First Aid/AED Certifications Required.
  • Apart from vacations and planned time off, must be willing to work a reasonable number of shifts each week as follows: Friday evenings and weekends in May (Friday 4-8pm; Sat & Sun 12-8pm)
  • 12-9pm 7 days a week once school is out and until school is back in
  • Friday evenings and weekends once school is back in (Friday 4-8pm; Sat & Sun 12-8pm through Labor Day
  • Work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • While on a lifeguard rotation, actively guard and scan the pool area at all times; socializing and any other activity that may distract the lifeguard while guarding is prohibited.
  • Absolutely no use of mobile devices is permitted while actively on a lifeguarding rotation. If a lifeguard is found to be sleeping or using a mobile device during an active lifeguard rotation it is grounds for immediate termination.
  • Communicate and enforce all Blackhawk Country Club and pool policies and rules in a personable and professional manner.
  • Dress and appearance are consistent with Blackhawk standards including wearing your swimsuit, guard shirt, whistle and tube while on duty.
  • Following protocol and responding in a timely manner.
  • Complete daily cleaning assignments.
  • Attend and participate in regular in-service trainings.
  • Provide a welcoming environment for all members.
  • Document any incidents and/or injuries.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work space
  • Perform other duties as assigned
