About The Position

As a Lifeguard with the Champaign Park District, you play a vital role in keeping our community safe while enjoying our aquatic facilities. This position is responsible for maintaining constant surveillance, responding quickly and effectively to emergencies, and supporting the daily operation of Sholem Aquatic Center and other Park District pools. It’s a fast-paced, active role that makes a real difference every day. Requirements

  • Must be at least fifteen (15) years old; candidates under sixteen (16) must have a valid work permit.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification though a Park District approved training agency (may be obtain through the Park District prior to hire)
  • Must possess 20/30 vision or corrected vision (contact lenses or prescription sunglasses acceptable).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patrons and staff.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with diverse groups of people.
  • Knowledge of pool rules, policies, and basic facility procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain vigilant surveillance of assigned pool zones
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including water rescues and first aid
  • Enforce pool rules, policies, and safety procedures consistently
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons of all ages
  • Inspect and monitor safety equipment and report concerns immediately
  • Assist with daily cleaning and maintenance of the facility
  • Participate in required in-service trainings and certifications
  • Support special events, rentals, and overall aquatic operations
  • Represent the Park District with professionalism, discretion, and teamwork
