About The Position

The Lifeguard is responsible for a variety of duties to prepare the Fitness center pool for the demands of the guests. Lifeguards are responsible for guarding the pool during special events. The Lakeview Fitness is open seven days a week throughout the year. Shifts will vary based on needs of the facility and availability of workers.

Requirements

  • The Lifeguard must be at least 15 years of age
  • hold the following current certifications: Lifeguard Training, CPR, First Aid, and AED
  • Prospective applicants must be able to complete in-water skills tests and swim 300 yards non-stop.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures safety of pool area including placement of all required safety equipment on lifeguard stands.
  • Reports on deck ready to work fifteen minutes prior to scheduled shift.
  • Maintains professional manner at all times including: sitting upright in guard chair, continually scanning zone, vocally enforcing all rules with a positive attitude and maintaining discipline.
  • Stays alert to the time and rotates as scheduled.
  • Complies promptly with all requests and directions given by Head Lifeguards and the Aquatic Supervisor. Respects the decisions and authority of all supervisors.
  • Talks with patrons only when required. Gives polite informed answers to questions.
  • During breaks, checks locker room for cleanliness.
  • Remains within hearing distance in order to respond to an emergency situation at all times while on duty.
  • Wears uniform on duty.
  • No personal calls while on duty.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge of current practices in First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard Training Certification.
  • Assumes responsibility for the health and safety of the patrons.
  • Responds quickly and effectively to all rescue or emergency situations. Performs first aid techniques and rescue procedures as necessary.
  • Performs the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules and the employee manual.
  • Attends required trainings and meetings.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and departmental-specific safety rules.
  • Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects 30 pounds or less.
  • Reports any work-related or patron injuries to supervisor promptly.
  • Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to supervisor.
