About The Position

As the Pool Supervisor, you will maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. You will create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. You will build positive relationships with members and program participants through effective listening and verbal skills and creatively finds ways to connect them to one another and the Y community. You will assist in the orientation and on-site training of new aquatics staff at the facility and acts as a role model for part-time aquatic staff.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be able to work weekend and evening shifts.
• Minimum 24 months lifeguarding experience or two seasons working at an outdoor pool as a lifeguard preferred.
• Must hold, or be able to obtain within 30 days, and maintain current certifications throughout employment in the following:
• Lifeguard
• Emergency Oxygen Administration – O2
• Blood Borne Pathogens
• Y-USA Lifeguard Supervisor
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
• Ability to perform all necessary rescue and survival skills and all lifeguard prerequisite skills.
• Strong communication skills to convey expectations and safety regulations and coordinate with a diverse, multigenerational staff.
• Organizational skills to oversee various aquatic events and handle day-of-event operations.
• Adaptability to perform different roles (e.g., lifeguard, swim instructor, deck supervisor) and address unexpected situations during events.
• Problem-solving skills to address inadequate staffing, lifeguard breaks, and unexpected challenges during operations.

Nice To Haves

• Lifeguard Instructor and YMCA Swim Instructor certifications are preferred

Responsibilities

• Models inclusive behaviors and embraces all dimensions of diversity
• Attends and assists as assigned in all required aquatic staff training and meetings.
• Supervise daily rotations for all direct service staff, including lifeguards and swim instructors.
• Ensure compliance with state, YMCA of WNC pool rules and regulations
• Facilitates daily upkeep tasks, such as cleaning and reporting needed repairs or safety concerns.
• Coordinates daily member experience and addresses any complaints.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure all pool activities adhere to safety regulations and organizational policies.
• Responsible for completing and filing incident reports, inventory, and pool usage reports.
• Assists with training new staff and orienting them to the pool facilities
• Reports to the Aquatics Supervisor regarding pool equipment, supplies, staffing levels, and addressing any deficiencies as needed.
• Coordinate emergency response procedures and incident management protocols as required.
• Utilize standard software and hardware systems for administrative tasks, such as record-keeping and communication, only as needed.
• Provide coverage as needed in the event of inadequate staffing and lifeguard breaks.
• Acts as LOD for Facility as assigned by Executive Director.
• Acts as Aquatics Supervisor on duty when the Aquatics leader is not present, specifically evenings and weekends.
• 90% of the pool supervisor’s time will be spent in direct service as the lifeguard on duty, swim instructor, deck supervisor, or a combination
• Fulfill any other duties as assigned related to the operation of the aquatic’s facility
