Responsible for ensuring the safety of visitors, including monitoring and safeguarding the conduct/activities of pool patrons. Will perform water rescues, administer follow-up procedures and first aid, and make proper use of lifesaving equipment and techniques. Provides customer service to patrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints, and assisting with the general maintenance and cleanliness of the pool, pool area, and locker rooms. Will enforce pool policies, rules, and regulations and assist with aquatic program and pool operation. A prerequisite to being considered for employment is a passing grade in all portions of Starguard Elite Lifeguard Certification. The Starguard Elite Lifeguard Certification course is offered through many park districts. For your convenience, our District offers this course, which you can register for through our District. Attendance in this course must be done before employment and will be subject to a fee of $75, payable by the student. Candidates must possess the ability to carry out water rescues and administer first aid and CPR. Must be able to communicate courteously and firmly when interacting with pool patrons, use sound judgment in their decision-making with maturity and focus. Selected individuals need to be at least 15 years of age. Lifeguards must attend four hours of in-service training each month to maintain lifeguard certifications. Candidates will be paid for their in-person portion of lifeguard training. Availability: May through September (Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend). Hours and shifts vary between 5:30 AM - 10:00 PM daily up to 40 hours per week. Job training begins in April/May.
