About The Position

The City of Emeryville's Community Services Department is seeking qualified Lifeguards to perform lifeguard duties at the Emeryville Community Pool. This is a part-time at-will position working fewer than 950 hours per fiscal year and is non-benefited. Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining the safety of all patrons at the Emeryville Center for Community Life Swim Center facility and for enforcing all policies and procedures and safety regulations related to the operation of the facility. Duties include recognizing and responding effectively to emergencies, inspecting the facility on a daily schedule, reporting any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in or graduated from an educational institution working towards a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Must be at least 15 years of age at the time of appointment.
• Ability to complete on-the-job lifeguard training.
• Must be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding or another nationally recognized Lifeguarding certification.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings, holidays, and weekends.
• Pass a background check and be fingerprinted in accordance with State of California law.

Responsibilities
