About The Position

Lifeguards are responsible to keep an eye out for patients indulging in recreational activities in the pool area and Jacuzzi. The lifeguard maintains constant surveillance of patients in the facility while patients engage in water-related activities; acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patients in the event of an emergency. Provides emergency care treatment and lifesaving activities, to include but not limited to resuscitation and first aid as required, until the arrival of emergency medical services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreational Therapy, preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience related to the supervision of related swimming activities and safety in and around pools.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and understanding of mental illness preferred.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification, preferred through American Red Cross.
  • Handle with Care training must be completed within 90 days of employment and prior to assisting in any restraining procedures.
  • Competencies will be administered within 90 days of hire and annually via test taking, return demonstration, or the use of simulation.
  • Required to work flexible hours, overtime for hourly staff, some holidays, and weekends.
  • TB Test and CPR/First Aid certification must be completed prior to working with patients.
  • Must have knowledge of CMS, TJC, TAC, OSHA, state and federal regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
