About The Position

The City of Carlsbad is seeking a lifeguard to join a dedicated team focused on promoting community health and wellness. The lifeguard will be responsible for observing swimmers, protecting life, preventing accidents, enforcing regulations, and performing related duties as required. This position is under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and involves participation in an in-water skills test followed by an oral interview for qualified applicants.

Requirements

• Current certificates in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (CPR-FPR) and Lifeguard Training.
• Ability to earn Title 22 Certificate within one year of being hired.
• Proficiency and endurance in swimming.
• Ability to analyze situations and take effective action quickly.
• Constant observation of assigned areas to identify signs of danger.
• Effective and tactful communication with the public and teamwork.

Nice To Haves

• One summer of part-time experience as a lifeguard.
• Title 22 Certificate.
• EMR Certificate.
• EMT Certificate.
• Equivalent training certificates approved by the County of San Diego EMS authority.

Responsibilities

• Observe swimmers and ensure policies, rules, and regulations are followed.
• Prevent accidents and enforce safety regulations.
• Rescue individuals in danger and provide first aid as necessary.
• Maintain discipline among groups and individuals.
• Provide accurate information about aquatic facilities and programs.
• Assist in conducting special events and maintaining aquatic facilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
