About The Position

Lifeguards are responsible for keeping the pool and surrounding area safe and appropriately responding to emergencies that may occur. This role is additionally responsible for keeping various aspects of the pool area in order, including the office, equipment room, and deck. This position reports to the Aquatics Supervisor and receives direct supervision and direction from the Aquatics Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Physical skills as required in the National Lifeguard Pool Certification
  • Perform Standard First Aid and CPR-C skills as required in the Standard First Aid Certification (or equivalent Certification)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and implement emergency assistance according to the EAP.
  • Ability to grow and develop lifesaving techniques.
  • Ability to be reliable and responsible for assigned shifts.
  • Knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper swimming techniques.
  • Must be able to respond to customer questions, building trust and respect.
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Obtained an Approved Work Permit
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
  • First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) within six months of hire
  • Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • More than 250 hours and minimum of (1) season worked

Responsibilities

  • Provide proper surveillance while lifeguarding from the designated areas.
  • Consistently, enforce all pool rules, including preventing incidents by regulating lap lanes to ensure swimmers are in the appropriate lanes and that everyone is welcome to swim.
  • Maintain the aquatics equipment and areas, including the office and supply areas with a high attention to cleanliness and safety.
  • Manage emergencies to ensure proper care, notification of emergency contacts, and activation of the chain of command.
  • Record chemical readings, water temperature, pool inspections, accident/incident reports, participant statistics
  • Complete opening tasks, remove pool covers, ensure all safety equipment is on LG stands and ready, unlocking all doors, and ensuring ADA access.
  • Arrive on time for your shift with your uniform and rescue equipment worn and ready to use in case of an emergency.
  • Commit to working your scheduled shifts as outlined in the scheduling policy or finding subs unless otherwise directed by your supervisor.
  • Perform all opening and closing shift duties.
  • Complete all required in services, training and re-certifications on time.
  • Sell membership and concessions to the public and staff.
  • Report any facility problems or concerns to management, including rescue equipment, fitness equipment, and other pool environmental issues.
  • Promote the Aquatics programming and familiarize yourself with what we offer to members.
  • Attend all in-service training, including those outside of regular working hours.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by your supervisor
